Lois Duncan (1934-2016) was born in Philadelpia, and grew up in Sarasota, Florida. She was the multi-award winning author of over fifty books, ranging from children's picture books to poetry to adult non-fiction, but is best known for her young adult suspense novels, including I Know What You Did Last Summer and Down a Dark Hall, which were both adapted into box-office movies. In 2015 she was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America.
