Homeland Security Special Agent Akicita "Aki" Dawson is hunting an international assassin who has managed to elude capture in Europe. Former Sheriff's Lieutenant Graynger Holt is on his way to a new job as a pilot in South Dakota for the Department of Interior, and becomes involved in a mystery surrounding two homicides in Wyoming. He joins a Wyoming DCI task force as a temporary agent, and the investigation leads him to the Black Hills.
