This volume presents a framework to understand the complex relationship between human and environmental forces in cities in order to boost the urban resilience. The book argues that resilience has four fundamental pillars which must be considered: The first pillar is associated with social domains including justice, security, transportation, and education. The second of pillar is related to the physical environment including green spaces, parks, and sustainable infrastructure. The third domain is associated with economics, as urban areas are the hub of all economic activities, industry, transportation, and economic opportunities. The last pillar is ecology. The combination of all of the economic, social and physical domains of urban areas to run the urban system for urban development.
