In the history of human development, woman has been as important as man. In fact, the status, employment and work performed by women in society is the indicator of a nation's overall progress. Without the participation of women in national activities, the social, economical or political progress of a country will be stagnated. With in the framework of democratic policy, our laws, development policies, plans and programs have aimed at women's advancement in different spheres. Since independence a number of innovative schemes have been launched for the upliftment of women by recognizing the women's productive role and her contributions and efforts were made to remove the invisibility of women's economic contribution to the household and economy. Enhancing women's economic productivity is an important strategy for improving the welfare of millions Indian households. Empowerment of women through income generating activities are considered as those initiatives that affect the economic aspects of people's lives through the use of tools such as SHGs & DWCRA. It is being increasingly realized that women's income is very important for the upliftment of the family and the nation as a whole.
